3. Advanced Battery Management (ABM)
Like all UPSs, the Avaya UPS is equipped with a charger that charges the battery.

4. 3-Stage Charging System
ABM uses a 3-stage charging system:

First, the battery is quickly charged to 90% to make sure the UPS is prepared for the next power outage.
Second, ABM finishes charging the battery with a more moderate float charge.

5. Turning the Charger Off
Third, ABM turns the charger off.

This prevents the batteries from being overcharged.

6. Competitive Models
Competitive UPSs constantly trickle charge their batteries even after they are fully charged.

This constant charging dries out the electrolyte and damages the batteries.

As a result, the batteries in competitive UPSs don’t last nearly as long as Avaya’s.

8. Battery Replacement
While ABM significantly increases battery service life, it can’t prevent inevitable battery failure.

9. Up to 60 Days Advanced Notice
Even after the UPS indicates that the batteries need to be replaced . . .
they are still viable for up to 60 days. You have plenty of time to hot-swap the batteries or install a new UPS . . .

10. Testing the Battery
Because ABM turns off the battery charger, it is able to conduct an accurate test of the battery.
Competitive models don’t turn off the charger. When they test the battery they read both the charge of the battery as well as the trickle charge.
