2 Overview: Progress report Prepared cases for MOD 33
Review of disturbances and preliminary cases; Guideline for Validation of Powerflow and Dynamic cases for Mod-33;

3 Progress report Review of disturbances and prepared cases:
January 21th 2016, loss of two Colstrip units; March 3rd, NW Generation tripped 1491 MW of RAS after 500 kV Line 1 and 500 kV Line 2 tripped, 28 seconds after the NW Gen Drop event, Arizona two Navajo units tripped; July 27th 2016 at 19:18  APS Moenkopi Sub. Eldorado-Moenkopi, APS Navajo-Moenkopi, APS Four Corners-Moenkopi and APS Cedar Mountain-Moenkopi 500 kV Lines relayed after Four Corners 500 kV Line CCVT failed at Moenkopi Sub and flashover occurred.

7 How to find cases on peakrc.org:
After signing in peakrc.org go to Model>WSM Library

8 How to find cases on peakrc.org:
WSM Library>Current WSM Model

9 How to find cases on peakrc.org:
Jan21.zip – PSLF complete case 21JanBl_epcformat.zip – PowerWorld case Fore more detail contact Doug Tucker:

10 How to run cases from peakrc.org:
Cases are ready to be used: Load powerflow file; Load dyd file; Run the EPCL script attached with case to simulate event; Go to PLOT and run the EPCL “ch2csv-jsis.p” to extract data;

11 Events 2017: Wednesday March 8, 2017, 19:07 PST. System frequency to Hz momentarily and normal in six minutes when Colstrip Units 1, 3, and 4 relayed while carrying approximately 1750 MW. Tuesday March 7, 2017 19:23 PST. System frequency to Hz momentarily and normal in seven minutes when unspecified BPA generation relayed while carrying approximately 1560 MW Friday March 3, 2017 20:06 PST. System frequency to Hz momentarily and normal in three minutes when SRP Navajo Unit 1 relayed while carrying 680 MW.

12 Events 2017: Wednesday January 18, 2017, 20:22 PST. PG&E Malin-Round Mountain No kV line relayed during storm, open ending Round Mountain-Table Mountain No kV Line at Round Mountain Sub with Malin-Round Mountain No kV Line, Round Mountain-Table Mountain No kV Line and Round Mountain Sub 500 kV Bus 1 previously out for scheduled work. Frequency to Hz momentarily and normal in 20 minutes when WECC-1 Remedial Action Scheme operated tripping 1260 MW of Pacific Northwest generation. WECC Transfer Path 66 (COI), WECC Transfer Path 49 (East of Colorado River), and WECC Transfer Path 46 (West of Colorado River)

13 Events 2017: Saturday February 11, 2017, 05:45 PST. System frequency to Hz momentarily and normal in three minutes due to loss of 345 MW of generation in BPA Balancing Authority. Monday January 23, 2017, 17:27 PST. System frequency to and normal in 12 minutes when PGAE Malin-Round Mountain No kV Line open ended at Malin Sub and 883 MW of generation tripped due to RAS action in Pacific Northwest. Friday January 20, 2017, 00:01 PST. System frequency to Hz and normal in four minutes when NWE Broadview-Colstrip No.1 and kV Lines relayed during storm tripping Colstrip Units 3 and 4 while carrying 1324 MW total. SRP Navajo Unit 3 relayed while carrying 507 MW.

32 White Paper This guideline is meant to provide basic information on how WECC staff and Peak RC prepare the study cases for model validation and performs steady-state and dynamic system model validation. The cases may be leveraged for use by its members, as applicable, to meet the MOD compliance.

33 Guidelines: White Paper
After choosing event Peak do simulation of event using WSM. Two reasons to do so: Validation of WSM and to make sure that WSM represents events; WECC staff develop basecase based on WSM (case might need additional tuning for given footprint locally); Case posted on peakrc.com for PCs; PCs develop their own guidelines for R1 1.3 and 1.4 ;

34 Limitations: Impact of AGC
