God’s offer to Jeroboam
1 Kings 11:38 – If you do whatever I command you and walk in obedience to me and do what is right in my eyes by obeying my decrees and commands, as David my servant did, I will be with you. I will build you a dynasty as enduring as the one I built for David and will give Israel to you.

Where and how to worship God
Acts 17:24 – [Paul in Athens seeing all their idols] The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. John 4:23 – [Jesus talking to woman in Samaria ] … true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. Matthew 18:20 – For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” 1 Corinthians 3:16 – Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?

Maturity requires knowing God’s word
Increased knowledge – 2 Peter 3:18 – But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Study scripture personally – Acts 17:11 – Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. Learn from legitimate teachers – Ephesians 2:11-14 – So Christ himself gave… pastors and teachers,…. that the body of Christ may be built up… in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature…. 14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Obey what you know – James 1:22 – Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

Our desperate need for God’s word
Psalm 19:9b-12a – The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb. By them your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward. But who can discern their own errors?
