4 How many can we list?

5 Here are the 53 prepositions

A prepositional phrase begins with a preposition and ends with a noun or pronoun. Ex: I am going to the store with my friend. Can you find the prepositional phrases in the sentence? How many are there? Now we can figure out the prepositional phrase is, right?

7 Using prepositional phrases to find the subject and verb of a sentence
Prepositional phrases WILL NOT be the subject or verb in a sentence. How can we find the subject of the sentence? First get rid of all prepositional phrases EX: The man with his son walked toward me. You are left with the simple sentence: The man walked. The verb is: walked Who did the walking? The man The man is the subject and walked is the verb. Using prepositional phrases to find the subject and verb of a sentence

A book of stamps lay on the table. The mother held the baby in her arms by the door. With his flashlight the camper scared the bear away from the food. Practice: page 15 Easy Grammar Let’s try some more:

9 ALERT: Sometimes the object of the preposition (the noun) can be a compound object. Don’t let that throw you off. EX: Our dinner came from the pantry and freezer. from is the preposition the pantry and freezer is a compound object Therefore, from the pantry and freezer is the prepositional phrase. Be Careful!!! More practice on page page 21.

10 Absolutely, don’t forget to include the entire subject.
EX: Outside the building, the cats and dogs played. The burglar and his helper walked toward me. The broken cup and saucer were under the table. For breakfast, cereal, pancakes, and toast were not served. NOTICE: NOT isn’t included in the verb phrase. If there can be compound objects of the preposition, can there be compound subjects?
