Emily Dame, M.Ed. is the Education & Training Coordinator for the Prader-Willi California Foundation. Emily provides PWS specific trainings throughout the state of California to residential service providers, supported living service providers, vocational and day program providers, school districts, teachers, aides, and related service providers, and to parents and extended family members.
The Prader-Willi California Foundation is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) charitable organization founded by parents of persons with PWS in PWCF is an affiliate member of the national Prader-Willi Syndrome Association (USA).
Presentation Information:
Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is the most common genetic condition that can lead to life threatening obesity. People with PWS experience many symptoms including weak muscles, problems with balance and coordination, developmental delays, speech and language problems, and behavior problems similar to and sometimes more severe than Autism. PWS is best known, however, for its hallmark symptom, hyperphagia, which causes an insatiable drive to eat despite how much food is consumed. State-of-the-art training focuses on how to eliminate, reduce, or effectively manage these symptoms and how to implement the PWS Principles of Food Security to change the environment to create an overall sense of safety and security for the individual with PWS.
Admission is free.
