1 Sentences: The 4 Types Language Arts

2 Declarative DECLARATIVE comes from the verb, declare, which
means to tell. A DECLARATIVE sentence simply makes a statement. Declarative sentences end with a PERIOD.

3 Declarative EXAMPLES: Boys are disgusting. Girls are annoying.
Teachers are brilliant.

4 Imperative IMPERATIVE means necessary or required.
An IMPERATIVE SENTENCE simply gives a command or makes a request. Imperative sentences end with a PERIOD.

5 Imperative EXAMPLES: Don’t pick your nose. Clean your room.
Kick me, please.

6 Interrogative INTERROGATIVE comes from the verb, interrogate, which
means to question. An INTERROGATIVE sentence simply asks a question. Interrogative sentences end with a question mark.

7 Interrogative EXAMPLES: Who wants to go? Are you going to eat it?
How many will fail the test?

8 Exclamatory EXCLAMATORY comes from the verb, exclaim, which
means to shout or yell. An EXCLAMATORY sentence simply shows excitement or strong feeling. Exclamatory sentences end with an exclamation mark.
