2 Issues Need to cool region between window inner surface and dump tank vortex flow. Window will have cooling jets directed at critical window inner surface regions. Also jets needed to create flow across beam path behind window surface. Energy deposition in this region should be low compared to dump vessel downstream. Flow requirements less demanding than vortex region. This will certainly be a complicated CFD model. Can it be done in 2D or is 3D needed?

5 What Next? Provide Murthy’s colleagues with models and/or drawings.
Initially CFD model radial jet orientation (original design of BDE), then parallel? Further optimization of jet diameters, locations, numbers? How to integrate with model of window surface cooling?
