After completing an AmeriCorps teaching fellowship, Laura spent over a decade serving public school students in Brooklyn as a teacher and school leader. Laura’s desire to broaden her understanding of urban school models led her to serve as a principal within a national charter school network. This experience allowed her to address achievement barriers across the country. As a principal, Laura implemented a model of shared instructional leadership and piloted a Young 5s program to target early literacy needs. Most recently, Laura directed expanded learning time programs in public middle schools, launching a writing mentorship program between senior students and business professionals.
Tracey Benson is a third year doctoral student in the Educational Leadership Program. Prior to entering the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Tracey served as a high school principal in Pittsfield, MA. During his career, he has served as a vice-principal, district trainer, and classroom teacher. HIs primary area of focus is working with historically marginalized communities in pursuit of access to high quality educational opportunities.
