Utilities Telecom Council (UTC):
Formed more than 65 years ago in the USA to support emerging telecommunications needs in the utility sector. A Utility Trade Association focusing on telecommunications and ICT as needed to support core utility businesses - electricity, gas, water and other critical infrastructure industries. UTC is the industry’s source and resource for telecommunications and ICT solutions, collaboration, and advocacy. Electricity Water Gas/ Pipeline Telecom and ICT Equipment/ Services Providers

European UTC EUTC – 2008, two utility members in Africa:
Interest in how utilities in Europe are changing: In structure and the way they are regulated In the creation of smart networks Telecommunications & ICT and how such services will be provided The opportunities to create Telecom businesses EUTC have organised two conferences in Africa February 2012 at the invitation of Eskom June 2013 in conjunction with Eskom and other energy stakeholders and utility companies in the region 10

A non-profit trade association A Utility based group focusing on Telecoms & ICT issues as they affect this region A Board of Directors for Africa setting the agenda and addressing actions and initiatives for the association Chair and Vice Chair representing AUTC on UTC Global Advisory Council, an equal voice An agreed set of Byelaws under the auspices of UTC (Global) A local Director leading the organisation An agreed fee structure 11

Telecommunications will be critical in shaping energy networks of the future Applications and telecom technologies in energy can also support improvement in other utility networks, water, railways, oil & gas pipelines and in broadband services. 13
