9 6/27/ :52 AM Cornwallis Academy – 1:1 School. Role of teacher changes in personalized learning scenario. They practice “collaborative learning”. More info below: Cornwallis an example of a larger group of teachers and students…sharing ideas and practice. believes that to enable students to learn 21st century skills - both cognitive and non-cognitive - a 21st century learning environment is necessary.  Consequently, the design of the school has deliberately taken its cue from business environments. To this end, they have achieved the following: Students come into one large learning space (learning plaza) that seats 120 students. Teaching is shared between 4-5 teachers working collaboratively, allowing students to benefit from their collective IQ. Cornwallis has found that teachers are happier and more productive when working with one another rather than in isolation. The room is designed to allow for individual work, group work (round tables) or stadium style, the atmosphere can be changed through lighting and projections. Teachers rarely lecture. Instead the students are able to use their devices to view content and then work in groups to learn. Due to Cornwallis’ personalized learning platform that utilizes business analytics, educators are able to identify which students need assistance and work closely with them, while encouraging other students to push themselves further. All resources are shared resources, the curriculum is designed so students spend 70% of their time in these learning plazas and the remainder in a specialist teaching space. These include futuristic science labs, a catering suite, art, dance and drama studios, music rooms and a fully-equipped sports hall. © 2010 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
