Things to Remember When Deciding
COST: The more this costs you to produce, the harder it will be to make a profit the day of the mall All loans ($ borrowed) must be paid back plus interest! COMPLEXITY: Can you get this done on time? Can you manage this by yourself? Will it turn out well or will it be rushed/poor quality? Can you make enough of them (supply) to meet demand & make a profit? COMPETITION: Try to choose something unique so consumers can’t just go to another store to get it instead QUALITY: Is it worth the price? DEMAND: Is this something consumers are interested in? Are they going to want this? PRICE: Under $5; reasonable for quality & demand; able to make a profit

Mini Mall Basics Bring stuff with you to school or arrange to have it dropped off by 10am Bring a few singles/coins to get your store started (to give change to early shoppers) You can bring $5 to shop for yourself. This will be CHECKED before the mall. Set-up will begin at 10:30am. Bring EMPTY desk to the gym; Cotton’s class will have desks/tables provided. Bring poster/sign for your store to hang up. After set-up, 5th graders will have a little time to shop the mall Groups will be called to shop & there will be special rules at this time. Recess will be before set-up. Lunch will be regular time, in cafeteria. At 12:15pm, shoppers will begin coming. You must be READY. Shoppers will rotate until 2:15pm. At 2:15 ALL money will be collected & then we will clean up. NO money is to go home with you that day!

Mini Mall: More About Money
You may only bring a little money to make change AND $5 to shop for things you’d like to personally buy. Bring a bag or some other thing to keep money that you make in. All money will be checked before the mall begins. If you have more than you should, you will be asked to put it in your backpack. All money that you take in will be collected by Mrs. Marcum. NO money will go home with you Thursday. Friday after Field Day: Mrs. Marcum will hand you back the money you made Thursday (revenue), and we will figure out your profit. Your cost/loan to be paid back will be given to you in an envelope with a slip explaining what it is. A remind/ will be sent to parents so they expect it. The profit will be re-collected and put into our PARTY FUND!

Mini Mall: More About the Party
When all profits have been collected, your teachers and room moms will begin planning the party. Time-permitting, you may be able to get suggestions, but a lot of the party will be a surprise! We will make sure to spend the money as wisely as we can to have as much fun as we can. Hope for good weather that day! Think good-weather thoughts! Party will be after the Talent Show on the last day of school.

Mini Mall: How to Have a Good Time
Don’t ask a million questions. Be patient. Very VERY patient. There are 80 of you and 1 of me. WATCH YOUR STORE! Mrs. Marcum will charge you a fine. It will come OUT of profits & be used to buy items for her class next year. It will not go to the party! Only certified security guards can watch your store for you. Anyone else and it will be a fine from Mrs. Marcum from the Better Business Bureau! BOTH partners must be at the store at all times. No free bathroom breaks! Be friendly and interact with your customers. Talk to them, ask them what they’d like, be polite, use good manners, say please and especially thank you! Don’t constantly yell for people to shop at your store. People at real malls don’t do that, do they? It’s annoying and loud! Always keep profits in mind when lowering prices, making sales, or “deals” You sell to EVERYONE who has money. Don’t be rude, excluding, or choosy. If I see or hear about anyone doing this, your store will be SHUT DOWN immediately. Try not to constantly count your money. It’s tacky and not very safe. Be ALERT. No one should have to try to get your attention to buy from you. Stay calm and in control. You control your body and mouth. Don’t be wild & crazy.

Now you have time to finish your ads/sign
1 sign per store. 2-3 good, quality ads to hang in the halls Use the ads on the board to guide you If you finish an ad, you may ask Mrs. Taulbee for tape and you may hang it somewhere in the school. BEHAVE in the halls! Be back in 2 minutes or less! Think about who you want to see it the most & think about where they will be able to READ it. Don’t put it too high or too hidden! Everything must be put back the way you found it or BETTER. You should work quietly. Finally, everyone be ready for the mall tomorrow!!!
