3. History
Quimper is Brittany’s most traditional region and is the ancient capital of La Cornouaille.
In the 11th century, it was united with the Duchy of Brtittany.
In the 14th centurys during the civil wars, it was considered ruined.
The cathedral of Saint Corentine is the oldest Gothic structure in lower Brittany and was constructed between the 13th and 16th century.

4. Specialties
The best known product here is faïence pottery. It has been around since People there use bold, provincial designs .
It also established some of the best crêpes and cider
Copper, bronze work, galvanized ironware, leather, paper, and woollen goods are also big here.

5. tourist attractions
Between Quimper and Benodet on the banks chateaux and chapels are lined, providing opportunities for boat trips and fishing.
The river, Odet is one of the most beautiful rivers in France here.
The cathedral is west of the old town, has half timbered houses, charming cobbled streets, and a friendly atmosphere.
Quimper’s cultural heritage is celebrated with traditional Breton music, costumes, and dancing at the festival de Cornouaille

Parc de Château de Lanniron is a botanical garden at the edge of the Odet River
Musee de la Faience is a pottery museum
Musee Bigouden is a museum of the traditional Breton costumes and tall hats and other historic clothing
Marinarium at Concarneau is an aquarium

9. Marie Antoinette 1755-1789 18th century monarchy symbol
Marie was a beautiful queen of France. She was Born in 1755, as a princess; 15th daughter of Maria Teresa. Growing up she enjoyed the relaxed environment around her. Although very pretty, she had a dark side. She was known to ‘dance while people starved, and would spend her riches on clothing and jewels without thinking about her subjects plight’. Unfortunately, the picture most people think of her is with a drink of champagne, eating bonbons, or rolling in the bushes with a lover. In 1789, she was beheaded by her own subjects.
