Cranes + Scaffolds can = Incidents
1. What This year there have been 5 reported incidents involving overhead cranes either hitting or narrowly avoiding something in their path – for example ladders, scaffolds, temporary cables etc. The ‘cost’ of damaged equipment; crane inspection and lost time can be considerable. 3. Learning Crane isolation permits are integral to work at height near overhead cranes. It’s the responsibility of the person managing work near, or in the path of, overhead cranes to ensure it is isolated and consider related hazards such as live crane bus bars. Are you supervising your contractors when working near or in the path of overhead cranes? 2. Why Such incidents occur most frequently when work in one area has not considered the need to isolate the crane, or the scope of work changes and the implications for cranes not considered. Further detail can be obtained from your local SHE Group Issued Nov 09
