The Computer Moné Pulley and Johnaye Graves IED 2nd Period
2
When was the computer invented?
Charles Babbage invented the concept of the computer in the 1820s. Konrad Zuse invented the first modern day computer, the Z1, in 1936.
3
How was the product originally made?
The computer was made using an electrical engine to provide energy. It otherwise consisted of 6 basic units: Control Unit Arithmetical Unit Input/Output Memory Memory Selector Tape Reader
4
What was the first computer made of?
Punched tape and cards Vacuum tubes Carbon nanotubes 1,000 thin slotted plates Used binary arithmetic
5
What needs did the computer address?
Compute sets of numbers and turn them into hard copies Making trade transactions More accurate than the human mind. Not as time consuming
6
What improvements have been made to the project?
The original version of the computer was built solely for calculations. Since then there have been many significant improvements: Stored memory Use of transistors Integrated circuit (IC) chip with operating system Ultra-large scale integration Addition of the Internet Superconductor technology
7
Why were these improvements made?
These improvements were made in order to make the computer faster, smaller, cheaper, and much more efficient. They have transformed the computer into the modern version that is used today.
8
Patents Identification system and tracing Multimedia mail system
Digital memory Data conference system Voice and data communication
9
Who uses the product? Computers are used by people of all ages and various backgrounds. Surveys have continuously shown evidence that the usage of computers for both personal and business needs has greatly increased over the past few years.
10
What is the global impact on society of the invention and subsequent innovations?
Positive Impacts Makes daily tasks easier and quicker Reduces costs of various tasks Improves teaching and learning process Manages accounts and financial transactions Negative Impacts Replacement of employees Computer crime Dependence on technology
11
If you had the ability to change this product in any way, what would you change?
If I could change the computer in any way, I would make it possible to control all features and settings with your voice. I would also improve the battery life so that someone could go several days without having to charge their computer.
