THANKSGIVING DAY THE THANKSGIVING DAY
2
Thanksgiving Day is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November in America and the second Monday of October in Canada. This feast was born to thank God for the good harvest.
3
This celebration was born by the Pilgrims Father, a small group of Puritans, forced to escape to America because in 1620 were persecuted by the Anglicans. They arrived in America with the famous boat called the Mayflower.
4
When the Pilgrims Fathers arrived in America they met the Native Indians.
They taught the Pilgrims Fathers how to cultivate crops in their territory.
5
The next year the Pilgrims Father had got a big harvest.
They organized a big lunch where they invited the Indians to thank them.
6
In the president of America Abraham Lincoln decided to consider the feast of Thanksgiving Day a national feast and celebrate it on the fourth Thursday of November.
7
This celebration is deeply felt
by the Americans. They expose Puritan and American flags, organize parades and prepare elaborate meals, whose main dish is the traditional stuffed turkey, which is also offered to the neighbors and the least fortunate.
8
Every year shortly before Thanksgiving day, at the White House takes place a ceremony called the National Thanksgiving Turkey Presentation. The National Turkey Federation gives the President of the United States a live domestic turkey. Since 1989, during George H. W. Bush's first Thanksgiving as president, it has been an annual tradition for the president to "pardon" the turkey.
9
Closely connected to Thanksgiving day is Black Friday which marks the beginning of the holiday shopping season.
