1 Room 23 January 20, 2017 Language Arts Word Study Important Dates:
This week we started a new theme, “Dressing for the Weather.” We listened to the story, Lucille’s Snowsuit, and practiced our new comprehension strategy, fix-up strategy, to discuss how we could figure out the meaning of words that we heard in the story. We also read the story, How Should I Dress? and had discussions about the appropriate dress for different seasons. We learned three new vocabulary words: mistake, cloud, dress **Please check my notes on your child’s reading circle ticket and organizers. This week students had to correct their mistakes. Word Study This week we learned all about magic e! (silent e) We learned that magic e makes the vowel say it’s name (long vowel). We practiced making CVC words into CVCE words. For example, we learned that when you add the magic e to “hop” it becomes “hope.” We practiced adding and taking away letters to form new words with magic e. We added new words to our word wall. Please practice these at home.
