Quiz review answers What are the classifications of electromagnetic energy? –gamma ray, xray, ultraviolet, visible, infrared, microwave, radio wave. What is a wave? –a disturbance that allows for the transfer of energy What is frequency, amplitude, oscillation, wavelength, crest, and trough of a wave? Frequency: number of waves per interval of time Amplitude: half the distance of total wave height Oscillation: the back and forth motion of a wave Wavelength: the distance between a repeating pattern of wave motion Crest: the top of a transverse wave Trough: the bottom of a transverse wave What happens to the energy of a wave when the frequency of a wave increases? What happens when it decreases? –when frequency increases, energy increases. When frequency decreases, energy decreases. What is the difference between electromagnetic waves and mechanical waves? Electromagnetic waves can travel through space and exist as transverse waves. Mechanical waves require matter to move through and can be both transverse or longitudinal.
