1 P2P Streaming for Mobile Nodes: Scenarios and Related Issues
Guang Lu Juan Carlos Zúñiga Akbar Rahman IETF 77, March 2010

2 Summary The draft discusses mobility issues on P2P streaming which are not well addressed in the existing literature Link layer mobility IP mobility (simple IP, Mobile IP and Proxy Mobile IP) RELOAD support of mobility Tracker mobility Geo-Targeting Mobile Node Capabilities

3 Some Examples of Mobility Considerations for P2P (1/3)
Mobile IP mobility Mobile IP provides IP mobility and hides the mobile's (peer 1) movement from the Correspondent Node (peer 2) Because of Mobile IP, neither the tracker nor peer 2 are aware of the change of network for peer 1 This may cause quality problems for the P2P Streaming session. For example, peer 1 may experience high latency and increased load, which adversely affects the user experience of the P2P streaming session(s) and may result in unacceptable performance

4 Some Examples of Mobility Considerations for P2P (2/3)
RELOAD support of mobility It has already been identified in the WG that any PPSP developed protocol should be analyzed for interactions with the RELOAD protocol HIP is being considered for support of mobility for RELOAD HIP is an experimental with good security properties In addition to HIP, the following mobility protocols should also be considered for PPSP-RELOAD interactions: Mobile IP Proxy Mobile IP

5 Some Examples of Mobility Considerations for P2P (3/3)
Geo-Targeting Geo-targeting is a technique used to determine the physical location (i.e. geo-location) of a user Current content distribution policies can apply certain rules to fixed P2P Streaming clients However, IP mobility can hide a peer moving from one region to another where possibly different content distribution rules may apply hence rendering the policies un-enforceable

6 Conclusions & Next Steps
The scenarios where a P2P streaming network contains mobile nodes need special consideration Does the WG want to Add mobility requirements in the “requirements” document Further analyze the impact of mobility on P2P streaming Propose solutions on mobility in the design of P2P streaming protocols
