3 Ethics Ethics are rules of conduct that people should follow

4 Four Basic Rules of Ethics

5 Ethics and Personal Standards

9 Cultural and Universal Norms
Norms: patterns of behavior considered acceptable or proper by a social group Morals: refers to our behavior, right or wrong Cultural Norms: All societies have morals, values, and concepts of human rights Customs and values depend upon the culture in which we live Universal Norms: An obligation to honor constitutional justice, civil law, and the moral norms of our communities Chapter 1, Lesson 5

10 The Ethical and Moral Decisions Process
Four steps to help make the right ethical and moral decisions: 1. Consider all the facts 2. Determine the moral values or rules that apply to the situation 3. Always make decisions and act in light of your knowledge of the values and facts 4. Choose the lesser of two evils, in some cases you can never choose Chapter 1, Lesson 5
