Analyzing Data and Results
Learning Target: I know that data is analyzed to determine the results of the experiment.

Analyzing Data When the experiment is finished you must analyze the data collected to find out the result of the experiment. Once you analyze your data you will write a result statement. Before you can analyze the data you need to calculate the average or total for each set of data.

Calculating Totals To calculate the total for a set of data you simply add together the data for the test group.

Calculating Averages To calculate the average of a set of data you follow these two steps: 1.) Add up the data for one test group 2.) Divide the answer by the number of addends (Number of Numbers you added together)

Example 6, 2, 9, 7 6 + 2 + 9 + 7 = 24 Divide 24 by 4 which equals 6
6, 2, 9, 7 = 24 Divide 24 by 4 which equals 6 The average of the set of data is 6

Results Statement When analyzing data, you must provide a summary of the results of your experiment, including: 1. Provide a description of the data. Include a statement of the average 2. Provide details about the: highest, lowest, fastest, slowest, greatest, least, tallest, shortest, etc. (whichever applies). 3. Include information on the outcome in the form of observations.

During the Horror movie it was 100, 105 and 110 BPM. During the Drama movie it was 85, 84 and 80 BPM. The Horror movie increased their heart rate the most with an average of 105 BPM. The Drama increased their heart rate the least with an average of 83 BPM.

When salt was added it boiled in 140, 120 and 145 seconds. Plain water boiled in 245, 230 and 200 seconds. The water with salt boiled the fastest with an average of 135 seconds. The plain water boiled the slowest with an average of 225 seconds.

The Traditional cooler started at 57 degrees Fahrenheit, after 1 hour it was 59 , after 2 hours it was 61 and after 3 hours it was 63. The Insulated Bag started at 55 degrees Fahrenheit, after 1 hour it was 57, after 2 hours it was 59 and after 3 hours it was 61 degrees. The Insulated bag kept the temperature the coolest after 3 hours it was 61 degrees Fahrenheit. The Styrofoam cooler increased the temperature the most after 3 hours it was 69 degrees Fahrenheit.

The row that received fertilizer grew the most corn with a total of 51 ears. The row that did not receive fertilizer grew the least amount of corn with a total of 37 ears.
