Alternative Fuels Task Force
2
The Task Evaluate the range of potential greenhouse gas emissions reductions from the use of alternative fuels in aviation u to 2050. In order to fulfill this: Develop and use ranges for lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions for different groups of altenative jet fuels Assess the potential alternative jet fuel availability in the short- (2020) and in the longrun (2050) perspective. Combine the outcome in order to calculate the potential emissions reductions by using alternative fuels.
3
Reports Fuel Production Assessment Report – calculate the availabilitity of alternative fuels Life Cycle Assessment Methodlogy - assess the life-cycle emissions Fuel Production Assessment Summary – caluculations for 2020 and 2050 The work started in 2013 and will be completed in time for CAEP-meeting in february 2016.
4
Preliminary results 2020 – green diesel is most important for the availability of alternative fuels many scenarios are calculated and they result in 0 – 100 % availability of alternative fuels! The availabilty depends on policies, support etc and the scenarios needs to be considered combined with the possible policies in place. Ongoing work to describe the results.
5
Additional Task Develop a Life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology for the purpose of accounting for the emissions derived from the use of of alternative fuels in international aviation in a Global-Market-Based (GMBM) Monitoring, Reporting and Verification System. The work started in january 2015 and will be completed during next CAEP-cycle.
6
Report Methodology for the Assessemet of Life Cycle Emissions from alternative jet fuels for use in the global market based mesure system Many topics under diskussion, for example: How to define and handle Carbon Hotspots How to handle LUC (land use change) and ILUC What amortization period should be used? Reduction tresholds?
