How does the temperature of water affect the time it takes to freeze into ice cubes?
By Jeremy Chong
2
Hypothesis I predict the water with the lowest starting temperature will freeze first because it will need to cool down the least.
3
Materials Distilled Water Measuring Cup Stopwatch Thermometer Freezer
8 plastic cups Microwave
4
constants Water Cups Thermometer Freezer Stopwatch
5
Procedure Pour 500 milliliters in each of the plastic cups #1-4 .
Heat the cups #1-4 in the microwave until the water temperature is 90 degrees Celsius. Once desired temperature is met, place cups #1-4 in the freezer and begin timing with the stopwatch. Check the cups every 5 minutes to see if the water has completely frozen. Once all of the water is frozen, record the time.
6
Procedure continued Pour 500 milliliters in each of the plastic cups #5-8 . Heat the cups #5-8 in the microwave until the water temperature is 20 degrees Celsius. Once desired temperature is met, place cups #5-8 in the freezer and begin timing with the stopwatch. Check the cups every 5 minutes to see if the water has completely frozen. Once all of the water is frozen, record the time.
7
Data to be collected The data collected would be the time it took for each cup to freeze. The time for each cup would be displayed in a bar graph.
