3/20/2017 Supporting Staff: SS1 Work Group Supporting the staff who provide 24/7 services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is part of the overarching mission of the OPWDD Transformation Panel. The SS1 Work Group, comprised of representatives from OPWDD and partners from the voluntary sector, convenes monthly to address the needs of Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), who are the backbone of service delivery in this industry.

1/30/17 3/20/2017 SS1 Work Group Objectives Specifically, the objective of the Group is to advance the field of Direct Support as a valued career in order to ensure the stability of the workforce.   The Work Group is focusing on critical issues including: recruitment retention compensation the pursuit of strategies to reduce overtime the promotion of employee work-life balance

3/20/2017 SS1 Work Group Activities Since the inaugural meeting of the Group on January 30th, OPWDD staff has been working to: gather and analyze wage data research available workforce analytics tools study state and national surveys explore various funding sources meet with internal/external stakeholders prepare written reports research trends, policies and practices in comparable states confer with experts in the field

3/20/2017 Key Initiatives Data & Workforce Analytics Identifying: compensation, benefits, vacancy rates, overtime, trends, etc. NCI 2016 Staff Stability Survey (ongoing annual participation) Analyzing results of recent surveys: NCI Adult Consumer Survey, DOH wage survey, #beFair2DirectCare survey, DSP Credentialing Study (2015) Consolidated Fiscal Report (CFR) data Salary Assessors: Burning Glass Technologies, Economic Research Institute (ERI), Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Department of Labor - Occupational Code for DSPs Currently no code exists for DSPs Pursuing designation on fed level via Official Gov’t Catalog of Occupations (O*NET) with support from NYS DOL Workforce Development Grants Locating resources & facilitating access

1/30/17 3/20/2017 Tentative Future Meeting Dates Friday, April 14 Thursday, May 11 Thursday, June 15 Current Work Group members include representatives from: COARC NADSP FREE, Inc. NYS Rehab, Inc. NYACH NYSACRA UCP of NYC We are looking to expand our Work Group. Please consider the added value of your knowledge and expertise! Start with the first 3 months, then move on from there.
