LEAP and ILEAP PARENT MEETING

What is the leap test? High stakes test that measures how well a student has mastered content standards High stakes means that students can be retained in the same grade if the test is not passed Taken in grades 4th and 8th (iLEAP is taken in grades 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 7th , and 9th) (GEE is a high stakes test in grades 10th and 11th )

When is the leap test? Phase II is taken in April
Phase I is taken in March English Language Arts Writing Essay and three Math Constructed Response (short answer questions) Phase II is taken in April All other parts of the English Language Arts (ELA), Math, Science, and Social Studies iLeap is taken in April All parts of the English Language Arts (ELA) Math, Science, and Social Studies

Transition years? From LEAP to Common Core Standards
Students will continue to take the LEAP and iLEAP tests (modified versions)

Leap Test ACHIEVEMENT LEVELS
Advanced: A student at this level has demonstrated superior performance beyond the level of mastery. Mastery: A student at this level has demonstrated competency over challenging subject matter and is well prepared for the next level of schooling. Basic: A student at this level has demonstrated only the fundamental knowledge and skills needed for the next level of schooling. Approaching Basic: A student at this level has only partially demonstrated the fundamental knowledge and skills needed for the next level of Schooling. Unsatisfactory: A student at this level has not demonstrated the fundamental

Individual Schools receive points for students scoring Basic, Mastery, or Advanced Schools will no longer receive points for students scoring Approaching Basic

What is considered Passing FOR lEAP?
STUDENTS MUST SCORE A MINIMUM COMBINATION OF BASIC AND APPROACHING BASIC , IN ELA AND MATH, ON THE LEAP TEST. Students who score a lower combination will attend summer remediation and retest If students do not score the combination of BASIC and APPROACHING BASIC or higher in the summer, they will repeat 4th grade the next school year .

LEAP REMEDIATION Students with low achievement levels (from the previous LEAP or iLeap tests) are offered in-school remediation during the school year Students use Study Island, LEAP work books, LEAP sample test items Students who fail the LEAP test will be offered summer remediation

What can I do as a parent? Study with your child
Read with or to your child daily Use the resources available Practice Math Multiplication Facts and Writing Practice speaking and writing answers in complete sentences For Example: What is the name of your school? The name of my school is Hammond Westside Elementary Montessori. Help your child with their homework Encourage your child to follow school rules and to attend school daily BE THEIR BIGGEST SUPPORTER!!!!
