The Numbers 9900 62 326 325 642,000 303,000 9900- miles of local paved lanes 62- miles of expressways (8 expressways) 346 - square miles of transit coverage 325 – miles of on-road bicycle network 642,00- projected increase in population by 2040 (VTP 2040) 303,000 – projected job growth by 2040 (VTP 2040) 25% - percentage of the population that will be considered seniors (age 60+) in 20 years (Sources: VTP 2040, US Census) The point: A) Growth will bring a heavy burden on existing roadways and transit systems B) This is a county with diverse needs, from solo commuters travelling in and out of the county, to those who desire to get around with an active commute that incorporates bicycle travel, sometimes in combination with buses, light rail and Caltrain, to people who rely purely on mass transit (buses and light rail) to get around…including low-income individuals/families and seniors. The makeup of our population is changing. As people age, they must have access to transit options beyond the car. With the influx of people and jobs in the next 25 years, we have to figure out how to help everyone move around in a county that is already largely built-out. 25%

Growth in the County
5
Commute Origins Of the ~ 900,000 commuters who work in Santa Clara County, approximately 80% commute within the county. (Data ; assessment 2014)
6
Growth Patterns (Next 25 Years)
Santa Clara County grows more than other counties; we must meet the transportation demand of the growing population 27% percent of job growth in the Bay Area 30% percent of population growth in the Bay Area 31% percent of household growth in the Bay Area
