Figure 1. A 1962 portrait of Beecher by the French painter Jean-Pierre Aloux. A plaque under the painting gives Beecher's appointments as chief of anesthesia from 1936–1969 and as Henry Isaiah Dorr Professor from 1941–1970. The picture hangs in the office on the fourth floor of the White Building, part of the MGH complex that was occupied by Beecher and now serves his immediate successor, Dr. Richard J. Kitz.
