1 Water Quality Seminar Series
Jointly sponsored by Institute of Natural Resource Sustainability (INRS) and Dept. of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences (NRES) March 3, 2009 Noon – 1 PM Illinois Natural Resources Building (Illinois State Geological Survey) Room 101 (SE corner) 615 E. Peabody (Coffee and cookies will be provided & brown bag lunches welcome) Surface Water and Sediment Quality Resources and Research at the Institute of Natural Resources Sustainability (INRS) by Mike Machesky Geochemist (INRS: Illinois State Water Survey) The Institute of Natural Resources and Sustainability (INRS), which includes the Illinois State Geological, Water, and Natural History Surveys and the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center, was incorporated into the University of Illinois in This second seminar in a monthly seminar series on water quality will focus on surface water and sediment quality resources available within INRS, as well as current research efforts. INRS has significant resources available for surface water and sediment quality research. A variety of water and sediment sampling equipment is available for both short- and long-term research, along with personnel trained in the proper use of that equipment. We also possess expertise in the analysis, interpretation, and modeling of water and sediment quality data. Finally, we have the necessary database and data archival expertise to ensure that those data are available to both our sponsors and the public in an accurate, timely and geographically referenced manner. An overview of these capabilities, using primarily on-going or recently completed projects as examples, will be presented during this seminar.
