Our Accounting and Finance degrees are taught by the Accounting and Finance Division which is part of Alliance Manchester Business School (Alliance MBS) Alliance MBS is a dynamic School with around 1,700 undergraduate students and over 200 teaching staff Alliance MBS is ranked 2nd in the UK in terms of business ‘research power’ (REF ) … but what does this mean to you? 4 Prof Stuart Turley Stuart Turley has held a Chair in Accounting at the University of Manchester since He has held visiting appointments in Sweden, Denmark and Australia. Between 2002 and 2012 he was a member of the Auditing Practices Board (within the Financial reporting Council), which set practice and ethical standards for auditors in the UK and Ireland. He has been a member of the Scientific Committee of the European Auditing Research Network since its inception, serves on the editorial boards of several journals, and was formerly a member of the Research Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Scotland. He is a past editor of the British Accounting Review and the International Journal of Auditing. Original Thinking Applied

7 Aims and objectives On completing either programme, you will be able to: analyse and evaluate corporate performance using financial information in the context of a specific industry critically apply knowledge of financial reporting, management accounting and finance construct a reasoned argument, supported by evidence and presented in a professional written report and oral presentation, evaluating different approaches take responsibility for independent learning, including defining the scope of the tasks, undertaking research and writing up results within a specified timetable work effectively in groups, including planning, communicating and cooperating on tasks find, use and interpret key primary and secondary sources to investigate companies and use IT to organise and present Original Thinking Applied

3 years with an option to study abroad in the second year Specialist pathways offered as part of the BA (Econ) programme run by the School of Social Sciences. Also offer a pathway in Economics and Finance. A more flexible degree programme allowing you to study accounting and finance with a strong grounding in the social sciences. BSc (Hons) Management (Accounting and Finance specialism) Common first year of study for BSc Management programme – specialise in your chosen pathway from your second year onwards Year 2 – A&F specialism – 60 credits of core modules (Foundation of Finance, Management Accounting and Law) and 60 optional course units from a wide range of Business Management disciplines, including 20 credit language course. 3 year degree programme with an option to study abroad in the second year Flexible programme with opportunity to combine different pathways e.g. accounting and finance, economics and finance Common first year of study – specialise in your chosen pathway from your second year onwards School of Social Sciences and Alliance Manchester Business School collaborate to offer the Accounting and Finance / Finance specialist pathways Opportunity to gain substantial exemptions from professional accounting bodies – including ACCA (up to 6 papers) and CIMA (up to 7 papers) Degree of choice in subjects you can study in all three years e.g. politics, sociology, philosophy, social anthropology. BA (Econ) Accounting and Finance To graduate as an Accounting and Finance joint specialist you must select 50 credits from accounting and 50 credits from finance. You will choose either the accounting project, Financial Analysis of Corporate Performance [30] or the finance project, Empirical Finance [30] – these projects are worth 25% of your final year. 100% of BSc Accounting graduates were employed or in further study within 6 months (Unistats 2016) BSc (Hons) Accounting gives you an accelerated route to a career as a chartered accountant but you are not restricted to this career, should you change your mind These degrees are a useful platform for those considering careers in: the accounting profession with a firm of accountants in practice industry public sector organisations the financial and business sectors Many students also choose to undertake further study in specialised areas of finance e.g. derivatives, financial engineering and quantitative risk management Original Thinking Applied

BSc (Hons) Accounting with Industrial/Professional Experience - N401 Standard entry requirements: AAA at A-level plus GCSE Maths grade A and GCSE English Language grade B IB: 37 with 6,6,6 in Higher Level subjects plus no less than 5 for Standard Level English and 6 for Maths. Maths Studies & English Literature are not accepted. 27 Alliance MBS Scholarships
Alliance MBS will award 10 scholarships in 2018 (please note: as these scholarships are administered by the Business School they are available for BSc Accounting students as opposed to BAEcon) Social responsibility scholarships are available to all students and are worth £2,000 per year (across three years of study) Students must achieve AAA at A-level (or equivalent) and demonstrate a significant commitment to social responsibility through, for example, volunteering, charitable work, community-based projects or fundraising International stellar scholarships worth £2,000 per year are available to international students (additional eligibility criteria apply) Find out more at The closing date for applications is 31st August 2018 – please wait until you receive your results before submitting your application Original Thinking Applied
