Safeguarding Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined by the DfE as: protecting children from maltreatment; preventing impairment of children’s health or development; ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes

Our duty of care Although everyone has a duty of care to respond to safeguarding concerns, there are members of staff who have overall responsibility and should be informed if there are any safeguarding concerns regarding our students: Designated Safeguarding Lead Mr Gummery Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead Mr Stokes Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead Miss Knight Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead Mrs Jones

Safeguarding Top Tips for Parents
Be in control of the apps your child is downloading If you allow them to have a social media app, make regular checks (or “where possible” have the account open on your phone) Check the privacy settings to ensure they are as strict as possible Stay up-to-date with the technology and applications your child does (or may) use Be mindful about the use of social media prior to bedtime. Teenagers should have around 9 hours sleep a night. Research shows teenagers who have more than one social media apps have less than 8! Social media can have negative effects on student’s mental health and social skills – so consider limiting the use of mobile phones in the house Inform and remind you child of the dangers of using social media.

Use social media apps for a specific reason AND POPULARITY IS NOT A REASON Only add people who are friends Check the privacy settings to ensure they are as strict as possible Be mindful about the use of social media prior to bedtime. Social media can have negative effects on student’s mental health and social skills – so consider limiting the use of mobile phones in the house Do not send inappropriate or risky photos/messages to anyone and NEVER post them If you have any concerning regarding posts etc. report them and where possible keep the evidence – it is against the law to post anything threatening about an individual
