Need for Legal Services

The Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987
An Act to constitute legal services authorities to provide: Free and competent legal services To the weaker sections of the society To ensure that opportunities for securing justice are not denied To any citizen By reason of economic or other disabilities

Legal Aid Clinics Legal Aid Clinic means:
The facility established by the DLSA To provide basic legal services to the villagers With the assistance of Para-Legal Volunteers Or lawyers.

Role of Para Legal Volunteer To bridge the gap between
Weaker sections of the society Needy & Legal Services Institution * DLSA * TLSC * SLSA

Duties of the Para legal volunteers
Organizing Awareness program to make people aware of their right to get Legal Assistance through the DLSA Helping the family of Child Missing or Child Trafficking through the Legal Services Authorities and Rehabilitation of the child. Helping the people to get benefits of the Govt. Beneficial Schemes. Visiting the Jail , Police Station, Hospital, Observation Home, Probation Home in connection with DLSA Helping the victim of crime to approach the DLSA for compensation Distributing publicity materials on Legal Services Participating in the programmes of DLSA

1. To ensure free and competent legal services : Remand Advocate Panel Lawyers - By way of Legal Advice, consultation, drafting and convincing 2. To ensure wholesome environment - Good food - Proper accomodation - Safe drinking water - proper sanitation facilities

Role of PLVs at J.J.Board To ensure legal aid lawyer
To ensure privacy of juveniles in conflict with law To ensure that juveniles are produced only before the J.J Board To ensure that in case of doubt regarding the age of benefit of doubt be given to juvenile To ensure that a police officer is allowed to wear police uniform and juvenile cannot be kept in jail or police lock up To ensure that juvenile should not be handcuffed To ensure that the guidelines of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in Sampurna Behrua Vs U.O.I in W.P No. 473/2005

Mental illness is curable Mentally ill persons are entitled to all Human Rights and Fundamental freedoms To promote respect for the inherent dignity of mentally ill persons Non discrimination To ensure the right of mentally ill persons to get treatment Rseception orders To ensure privacy and dignity of mentally ill persons
