3 Project Vision & Mission
Researchers from all disciplines enjoy seamless, open access to the advanced digital capabilities, resources and expertise they need to collaborate and to carry out data- and computing-intensive science in a secure and trustworthy way, managing and preserving resources for everyone’s benefit. MISSION To establish a unified, open set of production services realized via cross-Infrastructure integration, procurement, delivery, innovation and training, involving multiple providers and benefitting research collaborations of pan-European and international relevance.

4 Objectives Simplify access to a broad portfolio of products, resources and service provided by major pan- European and international organizations through an open service catalogue A cornerstone of the EOSC Remove fragmentation of service provisioning and access to digital services in Europe and beyond Technical integration between common & thematic services Service innovation, procurement, provisioning and access Increase innovation capacity of digital Infrastructures

Expanding capacities and capabilities Improving discoverability, access, interoperability and sharing , across research communities and countries Extend access to integrated compute, storage, data and software to new user groups including high- education and industry, increase the user base Expand human capacity Consolidate/Expand a distributed network of experts and service operators at local/national level

Ambition: the delivery of the EOSC Infrastructure component including hardware/advanced computing/storage/scientific applications leveraging GEANT connectivity services with the involvement of integrated e- Infrastructures/RIs/Virtual Research Communities, leveraging ESIF funding where applicable

QR3 2018: Initial integrated open catalogue of production commons services leveraging federated AAI (compute/storage/data management) Implementation roadmap of EOSC catalogue of FAIR data – via thematic service providers  “Thematic clouds” Implementation plan of cross-border procurement framework based on aggregation of demand and needs Rules of engagement for EOSC service providers  Input from EOSCpilot findings due at PM12 : widening of EOSC catalogue foundation by continual integration of new capabilities and capacity via thematic service providers, and common service providers

Role: SERVICE PROVIDER Activities: Integrate in catalogue, Train, Exploit (2) Early Adopters Research Community as consumer of common e-Infrastructure services Role: USER Activities: technical support, co-design, pilot use (3) Customer Research Community as existing/ prospective consumers of the service in the catalogue Role: CUSTOMER Activities: credit allocation, technical support, exploit

13 Thematic Services S Definition:
Services offering tools or platforms including data analytics, scientific applications, datasets, publications and other research objects – to be discovered, accessed, used and re-used in ways that will advance knowledge and drive innovation, leveraging the existing generic data and computing infrastructures. Thematic services serve the needs of specific science domains and/or of multidisciplinary research. Open Call launched on , closed on January 28: 60 proposals received. Review of proposals ongoing, notification of results: Feb 10 (hopefully). 14

17 Competence Centers The Competence Centre is driven by well established and mature research infrastructure or international collaboration requiring advanced and integrated data and computing services. In the Competence Centre early adopters test, adapt, and integrate the digital capabilities they need to pursue they research, with the support of e-Infrastructure and technology experts. Competence Centres should help consolidating and integrating existing e-Infrastructures in order to enable users to enjoy seamless access to complementary services from multiple providers. 18 Competence Centers Running Proof of Concepts to prove the feasibility of the proposed use cases, based on specific scientific and technical requirements defined by the research community. Conducting Pilots aiming at defining and testing the architectural design of the proposed solution. The results of pilot activities have to be validated against to the predefined criteria. Preparing the production environment required by the early adopters, where the relevant services and solutions are being delivered and made available to users beyond the CC, enabling them to become active users. Defining appropriate business models to sustain the solutions after the end of the project. Distributed across 3 slides 19

20 Involvement of Industries
Organized through Business Pilots: relevant to EGI participants with a national business programme and have activities of pan-European impact/interest designed to foster innovation between e-Infrastructures and the private sector through building an ecosystem of SMEs, large industries, startups, researchers, accelerators, and investors to become active business partners of e-Infrastructures as customers and/or service providers. These initial pilots will serve as early demonstrators of the project’s Joint Digital Innovation Hub (DIH). 21 Business Pilots Pilots are designed to foster innovation between e- Infrastructures and the private sector through building an ecosystem of SMEs, large industries, startups, researchers, accelerators, and investors to become active business partners of e-Infrastructures as customers and/or service providers. These initial pilots will serve as early demonstrators of the project’s Joint Digital Innovation Hub (DIH). Target Private organizations (e.g. SMEs, large industries) looking for new opportunities to innovate with or using compute, storage and data management products or services. Other organization types are welcome however strong evidence of commercial impact must be demonstrated. Distributed across 3 slides 22
