Presentation on theme: "So, what is your diagnosis?"— Presentation transcript:

1 So, what is your diagnosis?
For educators: This is a healthy adult brain. The purple arrows indicate regions of the brain where it is easier to observe typical age-related degeneration or brain volume loss. The blue arrows indicate regions where it is possible to observe greater volume loss/degeneration than is observed in an adult, aging brain. This particular brain does not have a lot of fluid build-up and thus is observably healthy, however damage will look like holes or dents in the brain and will be very dark (because it is filled with fluid). Using MRI scans from the OASIS database, you will compare images like these… …with others, to determine which brains are healthy or damaged. Normal aging/Region of normal aging (slight volume loss) Healthy brain tissue (typical amount of grey matter for age) So, what is your diagnosis? 1. HEALTHY 1

2 What is your diagnosis? 2. UNHEALTHY 2
Degeneration/damage not related to aging What is your diagnosis? 2. UNHEALTHY 2

3 What is your diagnosis? 3. HEALTHY 3
Healthy brain tissue (lots of grey matter) Low fluid (CSF) volume in brain What is your diagnosis? 3. HEALTHY 3
