To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Using a computer every day can have more negative than positive effects on young children. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience. Nowadays, young children use computers so frequently that some even use them more than 10 hours every day simply for “fun”. Although some people believe that the phenomenon has no harmful effects on young children, I agree that the disadvantages of it outweigh the advantages. To begin with, the benefits of using a computer are widely admitted. As high-tech tools, computers provide children with diversified methods to help them learn efficiently. Animated web pages and incentive applications are designed for teaching and inspiring them to access more information. As a result, such a process expands their horizons . In addition, children are attracted easily by the interactions in educational computer programs. Hence, they absorb knowledge effectively in a lively atmosphere, and it is welcomed by both parents and teachers. On the other hand, the negative impacts of using a computer every day need to be emphasized. Since young children have inadequate self-control, they are likely to be addicted to computers, video games in particular. Spending too much time on computer games, children will lose their interest in studying as well as communicating with their peers. Moreover, their values and perspectives of the real world might not be well developed once they fall in love with the virtual world, which will have a detrimental influence on their future. Hence, using computers for long hours has both physical and psychological effects that would be even more devastating for young children. In conclusion, though computers are helpful to youngsters’ study, the adverse effects they bring weigh more. It is acceptable that youngsters use computers two or three times a week, but parents still need to be aware of the unhealthy information on the internet, and “technology addiction” of their children. . 2

Beside a lot of advantages, some people believe that the Internet as an “invention”, has created many problems. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Nowadays, it is universally believed that the internet has been gaining popularity at an amazing rate. Some people assert that the internet brings us a lot of benefits while many others argue that its drawbacks should not be ignored. It is quite understandable that people from different backgrounds have different interpretations on the same issue. Those who favor that the internet has many advantages give their reasons as follows. First of all, it is obvious the internet brings us great convenience and efficiency. For example, we can send s to other countries in a few minutes, while sending a traditional letter takes us at least a week and costs money. Second of all, it is a well-known fact that we can also communicate easily with people from all parts of the world using apps like Viber or WhatsApp. Car Service “apps” on our cell phones such as “Careem” and “Uber” have also made public transportation much easier, and much more efficient all over the world. Furthermore, it is true the internet accelerates the flow of information and spreads education to all corners of the globe. In other words, we can have quick access to the latest information worldwide literally all the time. On the other hand, some other people hold a different attitude and argue the internet has many weaknesses. For instance, it seems that it can easily lead to psychological problems. An “internet- addicted” person tends to be isolated, self-centered and unsociable. Moreover, it is obvious that there is a sharp rise in the number of cyber crimes. More and more financial crimes such as money laundering are committed via the internet. In addition, it also has negative impacts on young people because there are a lot of obscene and violent content online. In conclusion, I completely agree with the latter view that the internet has more disadvantages than advantages. It increases people’s mental problem. It results in various computer crimes. It is harmful to youth and adults. Hence, individuals must realistically become aware of the negative effects of the internet, and take suitable measures to protect themselves from any potential problems. 3

The widespread use of the Internet has brought many problems
The widespread use of the Internet has brought many problems. What do you think are the main problems associated with the use of the Internet? What solutions can you suggest? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience. The Internet is a revolutionary technology that has changed the way people work, interact with each other and interchange information, but not without consequences. In my opinion, the negative aspects are mostly related to the “overuse and over reliance” on this technology. Our everyday life has been greatly shaped with the invention of the Internet, as people are using the Internet more than they actually need to First of all, widespread use of the Internet is related to new and innovative technological devices like smartphones and computers. Thus, we are creating a “social media and cell phone addicted society”. Furthermore, social media, games, videos, etc. which are available online are contributing to the “online addiction” among both teenagers and adults. Laziness, for instance, is one of the most severe consequences of over-reliance on the Internet and that stops people from doing important things for themselves and others. People have simply stopped “critical thinking”. Any free Time is “wasted” constantly checking cell phones, “spying” on friends pictures on Facebook or “chatting online”, instead of people reading actual books, working, volunteering or exercising. People no longer “exercise their minds”. This is embarrassing and dangerous for future generations who never carry a book or respectable magazine in hand anymore Second of all, people are becoming less active, both socially and physically, and that is mainly because they are using the Internet all the time. As a result, our health condition is deteriorating and our social life is in jeopardy Finally, our privacy is in a risky state due to non-stop pictures and information revealed on the Internet which remains online forever. In my point of view, because teenagers and youth are more dependent on the web than the older generation, it is important to monitor their activities online carefully. Moreover, the use of Internet in schools and workplaces should be limited only to educational websites and s. All generations should be encouraged to get involved in social and outdoor activities, especially internships and volunteer work to help build their CVs and gain valuable work experience. In addition, adults should set a good example and spend their free time reading actual books, working out and volunteering rather than waste their free time online. Even busy professionals like doctors and entrepreneurs do not need to check their cell phones or “every 5 minutes.” Research shows most people are embarrassed of their Internet and cell phone addiction. Hence, most people who are “addicted” to their cell phones and social media suffer from depression, a poor self- image and an unsuccessful future. In other words, people should only use their cell phone and technology for business or educational purposes, or “as needed” In conclusion, in spite of the fact that our society is becoming more dependent on the Internet, individuals should seriously ask themselves what is their purpose “online”. Are they using it for educational or business purposes or simply because they are stressed, bored or addicted? By seriously asking themselves these truthful questions, they will be able to prevent technology addiction and future embarrassment, on both a personal and professional level.
