2
Interactive session: ‘What if scenario’
3
Objectives of interactive session:
Imagine what would the world look like if it went green Discuss trends in probable, possible, and desired/undesired futures Test reactions to the prospect of a future green world
4
How would a ‘green world’ look like?
5
Imagine the world going green…
What would you like to happen in one generation (25 yrs) from now? Economy and market Life-styles and education Science and Technology Societal structures: Politics/Legislation/Communication Brief open discussion (max15 min) in 4 groups, each dealing with one of the listed topics. The exercise is for the participants to express how they have imagined a green future (therefore each group could even come up with some contradictory suggestions – i.e. all statements should be recorded for the purposes of the exercise). The outcome of the discussions will be noted on flipcharts and briefly presented to the plenary (2-3 min each group).
6
Imagine the world going green…
What could happen within one generation (25yrs from now)? What do you EXPECT? (most likely scenario) What do you HOPE? (desirable scenario) What do you FEAR? (undesirable scenario) (Consider using headlines or hashtags to describe trends) Structured discussion on the basis of the outcome of the previous exercise (20 min). The groups should now decide on the most likely scenario, as well as on desired / undesired trends. The outcome of the discussion should be documented with headlines (or hashtags) – lists of bullets under each scenario type – as per the next slide.
7
Capturing the trends What would be the headlines / hashtags of the future? Select up to 10 headlines/hashtags that capture future trends in a green world What images/narrative would better describe the green future? Translate the trends in an image or a narrative The headlines are to be presented to the plenary. Ideally some groups would be able to provide a narrative or sketch/describe some images.
8
Accepting the trends What new trends… would you be happy to follow?
would you accept to follow with time (even though you would not be the first one to change)? would you be hesitant to follow (resist change)? The plenary is presented with the headlines showing the new trends. Participants are asked to express their opinion as per the three questions shown on the slide. Relevant comments/discussion on acceptance/resistance to change is encouraged.
