They decided to measure the temperature of the cages in Celsius and the size of the guinea pigs in grams. During the experiment, they fed the guinea pigs the same type and amount of food each day, housed the pigs in the same types of cages with the same type of exercise equipment and shelter, and gave the pigs the same amount of water. The students measured the size of the guinea pigs each day in the evening for thirty days. a. What is the Independent Variable? Temperature of cages b. What is the Dependent Variable? The students measured the acidity by taking the pH of the soil and they measured the height of the plants in cm. The results they collected are shown on the right. What pH resulted in the tallest plants? 6.6 – 6.8 If the pH rose to 7.4, how tall would you expect those plants to grow? About 17 cm How tall would you expect the plants to grow if the pH were 6.5? About 52 cm
