1 ROLE OF A COMPETITION CHAMPION
A competition champion can help to shape the culture of a club. Having this person reinforce the message of respect is an excellent way of preventing many of the negative issues which can occur in youth sport. A competition champion will help with touchline management by giving gentle or, when necessary, more assertive reminders to maintain a positive learning environment. Competition champions will ideally have strong, yet friendly people skills – these can be; club leaders, coaches, parents and even athletes. The nominated person(s) should be able to relate well to others and be outgoing and engaging. Their main role is to: Promote positive behaviour on the touchlines Get to know the parents and other people involved with the club/organisation Be a role model Distribute PCS parent’s leaflets to promote positive messages Rate this tool! 2 ROLE OF A COMPETITION CHAMPION Job title: Competition Champion
Responsible to: Coach/PCS Club leaders Competition champions will be a positive role model on match days. They will help develop and sustain a positive learning environment for young people playing sport by giving gentle or, when necessary, more assertive reminders to anyone that does not uphold the positive values of this club. This person will reinforce the culture of the club and promote a positive learning environment by preventing any negative issues which may occur in youth sport. The ideal champions have strong, yet friendly, people skills and the nominated person(s) should be able to relate well to others and be outgoing and engaging. Skills and attributes required: Enthusiasm Well organised Available to attend match days Confident Assertive Friendly people skills Ability to motivate and influence others Main duties: Promote positive behaviour of spectators Get to know the parents and other people involved within the club Be a role model and demonstrate how to develop a positive learning environment Enlist the help of others to ensure everyone continues to practice positive behaviour. Distribute PCS parents’ leaflets and effort cards to promote messages Intervene when a situation may negatively impact a young person’s development Rate this tool! Give us your feedback.
