7/1/2018 SQL Server 2014 Standard Data management that grows with your business across on-premises and cloud BUSINESS-CLASS DATA MANAGEMENT CLOUD ON YOUR TERMS FASTER INSIGHTS ACROSS YOUR DATA Proven Data Platform Easy On-ramp to the Cloud Operational Reporting Most widely utilized database Robust partner ecosystem Large community of .NET developers Free management and migration tools Prioritized 24x7 problem resolution Access to advanced technical training Easily port existing databases ‘as is’ to a Windows Azure VM Deploy quickly with the Windows Azure Deployment Wizard Freely move DB apps across instances and servers with License Mobility Common architecture across Microsoft cloud offerings, public or private Support a wide variety of reporting needs with SQL Server Reporting Services Define data sources, create queries and report layouts, and add interactive features with Report Designer Report Builder BI client enables business users to work through the Microsoft Office environment Reliable Performance and Availability On-demand Cloud Solutions Analytical Insight Higher database max memory limits Enables Buffer Pool Extension to SSD New Delayed Durability increases performance for non-critical workloads Scale up to 16 cores physical or virtual computing power High Availability with Database Mirroring, Log Shipping, and Failover Clustering Windows Server Core means less patching by 50-60% Easy cloud-based backup and restore of SQL Server to Windows Azure Store large DBs in the cloud to support on-premises apps Span data across on-premises and the cloud with Windows Azure Data Sync Self-service provisioning and usage metering for simple cloud management View and manage on-premises and cloud databases with a single console Easily stand up and manage OLAP and reporting cubes using SQL Server Analysis Services Provide a consistent view across heterogeneous data sources with the BI Semantic Model Access aggregates, custom rollups and drill-through capabilities Perform data mining using familiar Office tools with add-ins for Excel and Visio Edgenet case: R2/Edgenet/Data-Services-Provider-Upgrades-Operating-System-to-Boost-IT- Management-Efficiency/ Before digging in deeper on Mission Critical Performance lets take a look at how a customer has seen business benefits by utilizing the SQL Server 2014 mission critical performance capabilities. Edgenet is a Software as a Service Provider the provides the decision buying guide with specific product recommendations for online retail storefronts for many large retailers. Given the sheer volume of inventory they are managing across the retailers they were in the past only able to accommodate daily inventory refreshes, which lead to some customer disatisfactions situations where customers could be presented with an ideal product based on the decision buying guide and not having it be available for purchase as inventory was updated daily. The business challenge Edgenet had was how to improve performance without increasing infrastructure costs. Their solutions was SQL Server 2014’s new In-Memory OLTP capability, which without refreshing hardware increased their transaction speed by 7x resulting in near real time inventory updates and in addition they also increased the throughput of the system allowing for greater number of customers to hit an instance of SQL Server improve both retail sales and customer satisfaction. TPP’s SystmOne software, used by health professionals across England, documents medical records & appointments for about half the patients in the country. Doctors in the U.K. typically only get five minutes with a patient, so in some cases, if a doctor can’t access the system fast enough, patients’ lives could be at stake. Because TPP was preparing to expand to China, India, and other densely populated countries, its challenge was to make sure SystmOne could scale up from handling a peak concurrency of over 72,000 users while also maintaining or improving the system’s average response time of 250 milliseconds per record. TPP migrated from Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 to the new in-memory online transaction processing (OLTP) solution in SQL Server The new solution provides seven times faster performance and can scale to hundreds of thousands of requests per second. The company was glad to save time and money by not having to create its own database system, but the best benefit is that in situations where quick access to patient records is crucial, such as a prescription drug overdose, SystmOne saves lives. Robust Administration Rich Developer Tools Integrated, Consistent Data Deploy and manage from one central console with Management Studio Automate deployment and administration with PowerShell scripting support Maintenance Plan Wizards Streamline virtualization support with Management pack for Systems Center Manage services and connectivity using Configuration Manager Build next-generation database and BI apps across on-premises and public cloud Automate with PowerShell scripting Part of Visual Studio 2012 and 2013, or free standalone SQL query edit and design tools to help ensure consistent query performance Rich content management for new XML, FILESTREAM and spatial datatypes Simplify data integration with SQL Server Integration Services Extract, transform and load data while minimizing code Gain near real-time insights with StreamInsight™ Connect using any industry standard APIs Varied platforms including .NET, C/C++, Java, and PHP Security and Compliance On-Premises Network Windows Azure Storage in the cloud Back-up to Windows Azure Data and compute on-premises SQL Server Client Tools Analysis, Reports, Scorecards, Dashboards, Custom Apps Data Sources Databases, LOB Applications, Big Data, Odata Feeds, Spreadsheets, Text Files Data model Business logic & queries Data access BI Semantic Model Least vulnerable enterprise database 5 years in a row Designed for security from the ground up Active Directory Authentication Enhanced Separation of Duties Basic Auditing New Backup Encryption Hardware and Software Requirements for Installing SQL Server 2014 Complete hardware and software requirements for installing SQL Server 2014 can be found at: ms aspx © 2012 Microsoft Corporation.
