To develop Policies and Procedures that will aid the work of the BoOM and dCOM. To work to bring Clarity and Consistency to all facets of the BoOM. To provide training. Ed – His job

3 dCOM Training Spring 2017 Purpose of Today To make you aware of the changes in the 2016 Discipline that effect the work of the dCOM. To inform you of policy decisions that may affect the work of dCOM Review UMCARES transition To answer any questions you may have.

5 dCOM Training Spring 2017 ¶ 315 Local Pastor License Change from simple majority and requires ¾ vote of dCOM, BoOM, and Clergy Session for Local Pastor License.

6 dCOM Training Spring 2017 ¶ 205 Serving in Supply If an assignment goes beyond 12 months, the person MUST begin either the candidacy process or the Lay Servant Ministry process (CLM ultimate goal) Anyone who was serving in supply status as of 1/1/2017, must begin either process by 12/31/2017

7 ¶ 205 Serving in Supply Grandfather clause
dCOM Training Spring 2017 ¶ 205 Serving in Supply Grandfather clause If a person renewed their Certified Lay Servant or Certified Lay Speaker status during Quadrennium AND have served in supply status during same time frame, then they can attend CLM Academy in Fall 2017 or Spring 2018.

dCOM Training Spring 2017 ¶ 205 Serving in Supply Certified Lay Ministry Academy Part 1: 8/26 Part 2: 10/5 – 10/7 Applicatons due August 12th Candidacy Orientation July 7th – 8th Applications due June 1st.

9 dCOM Training Spring 2017 ¶ 205 Serving in Supply For those serving in Supply status who have had their Licenses rescinded due to COS inactivity, the 12 month clock starts on the date of their status change effective date (when they went from Local Pastor to Supply).

10 dCOM Training Spring 2017 Course of Study The Discipline’s “satisfactory progress” will be defined as: Full-time – 4 Courses/Year Part-time – 2 Courses/Year Anyone unable to make satisfactory progress must inform dCOM as to reason. dCOM should “approve” the reasons for not attending COS as part of their vote for continuance of license.

11 dCOM Training Spring 2017 Course of Study dCOM MUST grant an extension EACH year that a person goes beyond the 8 year (FT) or 12 year (PT) requirement for completion.

12 dCOM Training Spring 2017 RETIRED LOCAL PASTORS A retired Local Pastor that has not completed COS, and is serving in retirement must continue to attend COS.

13 dCOM Training Spring 2017 SEMINARY STUDENTS We need to have the names of those seminary students that you are tracking in your district!
