SCTE The National Center for Supply Chain Technology Education Overall goal is to increase the number of supply chain technicians nationwide. Supported by a four-year, $3.5 million grant from the National Science Foundation, the Center will increase the number of skilled supply chain technicians by 14,000 over four years, creating new opportunities for students studying science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). More than 11 million people (8.6 percent of the U.S. labor force) work in the supply chain, and projections indicate that the industry will add an additional 969,000 jobs by While many four-year institutions offer logistics programs that lead to a baccalaureate degree, there are few two-year, hands-on (technician) programs in this field that lead to certificates or degrees. Center Overview This center is sponsored by the National Science Foundation’s Advanced Technological Education Program under Award No

3 MISSION The National Center for Supply Chain Technology Education will identify and develop skills-based educational pathways, facilitate professional development, and will disseminate educational materials with the goal of increasing the number of skilled supply chain technicians. Mission and vision of the center VISION The Center aspires to increase the number of skilled technicians by serving as the national leader for supply chain technology education

4 OBJECTIVES 1. Conduct a gap analysis of existing technician training, identify technologies being used and develop training modules The center’s three major objectives. 2. Develop and deliver professional development training related to these technologies. 3. Disseminate information to students, educators, and industry

True alignment between community college programs and industry needs
The distribution centers of tomorrow require highly trained supply chain technicians to operate and maintain complex robotics and conveyor systems. True alignment between community college programs and industry needs Certifications and degrees meeting the needs of employers Consistent training nationwide Future workforce will be better prepared The supply chain will become more efficient The distribution centers of tomorrow require highly trained supply chain technicians to operate and maintain complex robotics and conveyor systems. The NSF National Center for Supply Chain Technology Education will facilitate true alignment between community college programs and industry needs. Once achieved, supply chain technicians will be prepared with portable (stackable) certifications poised for successful careers. Small businesses will be able to adopt emerging technologies and companies with multiple locations will receive consistently trained technicians across state lines. The speed and accuracy of goods movement will increase while producing a more efficient process. As a result of this important work, the use of technology will expand. Workers skills will be enhanced and the efficiency of our nation’s supply chain will improve.

ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEMBERS
ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEMBERS We believe industry experts are a crucial part of the curriculum development process. The advisors listed below have a recognized need for skilled technicians and are committed to this project. Members provide content expertise on curriculum development and certifications; facilitate introductions with other stakeholders in the field; and help align college programs with national industry standards and technical skill sets. Industry Leadership Team (ILT) 1. Identify required technical skill sets needed by industry 2. Provide input on curriculum development and certifications 3. Facilitate introductions with other stakeholders in the field 4. Help align the center’s programs with national industry standards 5. Provide advice and guidance on issues associated with strategic direction and operation 6. Promote center activities 7. Assist in raising center visibility with industry 8. Host tours and meetings 9. Facilitate the hiring of student interns and program graduate 10. Speak as subject matter experts to students, academics or researchers National Visiting Committee (NVC) Advise, Assess and Advocate Responsive to project/center needs Probe the project team to determine what issues they face Report to NSF their recommendations/expectations

7 NATIONAL PARTNERS MAP This map shows the geographic location of our many partners. Once again, these locations closely resemble the major centroids of logistics activity in the U.S.
