Do-Now Solve the system of equations. (2, –20) and (–1, –2)
7x + –6x – 8 = x2 – 10 7x + y = x2 – 10 y + 6x = –8 1x – 8 = x2 – 10 0 = x2 – x – 2 0 = (x – 2)(x + 1) (2, –20) and (–1, –2) x = {2, –1}
2
Line Symmetry – can draw a line through the figure to make
Line Symmetry – can draw a line through the figure to make two equal halves. Point Symmetry – can spin the figure upside-down and it still looks the same. Transformation – operation that maps, or moves, a pre-image onto an image. Translation – slides the figure a given distance Ta,b (x, y) = (x + a, y + b)
3
Reflection – uses a line that acts like a mirror (line of reflection)
ry-axis (x, y) = (–x, y) rx-axis (x, y) = (x, –y) ry = x (x, y) = (y, x) r0 (x, y) = (–x, –y) Pre-Image – original figure Image – new figure Rotation – figure is turned about a fixed point Angle of Rotation – angle from the pre-image to the image R90º (x, y) = (–y, x) Center of Rotation – the fixed point
4
Dilation – reduces or enlarges a figure
Dk (x, y) = (kx, ky) Reflect triangle KEB with K(2, 4), E(5, 7), B(6, 1) in the x-axis. Name the coordinates of K`, E`, and B`.
