12 What is a Makerspace? “Makerspaces are learning environments where students can explore topics of their interest through tinkering and creating using a variety of tools and materials.” (renovatedlearning.com) It can be within any part of the school, but many are in libraries and run by librarians because the culture of the library supports the valuable aspects of a makerspace – collaboration, inquiry, problem solving, and construction of knowledge They are adaptable – shaped by educational goals and/or creative interests People come together to share ideas and materials They learn new skills and have a focus on the mindset of community collaboration and creation
