1 7:00 PM – SCHOLARSHIP SESSION
2012 AWARDS NIGHT WEDNESDAY MAY 16TH 6:30 PM – GENERAL SESSION 7:00 PM – SCHOLARSHIP SESSION Hi Seniors! The following presentation is in regards Hamilton High’s Awards Night Program which will be on Wednesday, May 16th starting at 6:30 pm. Make sure you follow the instructions carefully in order to be on the invitation list.

2 HAVE YOU HAD SCHOLARSHIPS OFFERED TO YOU?
*MERIT BASED SCHOLARSHIPS *COMMUNITY BASED SCHOLARSHIPS *PARENT WORKPLACE SCHOLARSHIPS *ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIPS Have you had scholarship offers this year? There are many types of scholarships you could have been offered, including merit based from your school of choice, community based from a private organization, parents work-place based from employers to the employees children, and/or athletic. If you have any of these offers, I need to know about these for the Evening Program.

3 ARE YOU JOINING THE MILITARY?
Have you enlisted with any of the Armed Forces? If so, please let me know. Your military recruiter will be attending the program and they expect you to be there. If you cannot attend, please clear this with your recruiter.

4 FILL OUT THIS FORM! Page 2 Page 1
This is referred to as the green sheet. If you answered yes to any of the previous questions you need to fill out this form. Some of you have received this today, pre-printed. The reason for this is because I already know of these scholarships so you do not need to list them again, simply check the box if you will be accepting them. This form explains Awards night on the front, and on the back it gives you additional space for more scholarship offers. Please list all other scholarship offers you’ve received to date. If you list a scholarship besides what is pre-printed on the front, I need proof of that offer. I cannot add it to the program unless you attach proof. Just attach it to the back of these forms. 5 Student Questionnaire
The next sheet attached to the green form is the Student Questionnaire. Your counselor will need this information to find out a little more information on your future plans. They will use this information when presenting your scholarship certificate to you on awards night. These two forms will help me generate an invitation list. If you do not plan on attending the awards night, simply fill out the green sheet and check the appropriate area “Will Not Attend”. These two forms are due to me no later than Friday, April 27th. After that, if you checked the box that you will be attending, your counselor will call you in to personally give you an invitation to the senior section of awards night. For Hamilton’s scholarship statistics, it’s very important for you to list all scholarships you’ve been offered, regardless if you will attend the awards ceremony.

6 Friday, April 27, 2012! No exceptions! DUE DATE
If you don’t let me know the scholarships you’ve received, or that you are joining the military, you won’t receive an invitation to awards night!!! Remember if you don’t let me know of your scholarships, you will not receive an invitation to awards night. Many times your parents are very disappointed when you are not acknowledged for your scholarship so make sure you let me know what you’ve received. Due date is anytime before April 27th!

7 WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? Fill out green sheet and give to Mrs. Lytle by 4/27 – this includes information on ALL scholarships offered to you regardless if you are accepting them- including proof of offer. If you receive MORE scholarships after you turn in the green sheet – let me know so I can add them to your list. Fill out the white questionnaire if you will or MIGHT be attending Awards Night Your Counselor will call you in to verify information Your Counselor will give you invitation for Awards Night to take home. Here’s a summary of what you need to do right now. Fill out the green sheet and the white sheet if you’ve been offered any scholarships or if you are joining the military, turn in to Mrs. Lytle in C109A. If you receive additional scholarships after you’ve turned in your information to me, bring in the letter showing your new scholarship and I will add it to your list. Fill out the white questionnaire if you WILL or even MIGHT be attending awards night. You can make your final decision closer to May 16th.

8 What happens at Awards Night?
General awards to be given at 6:30 in gym. Scholarship section starts immediately after, normally around 7pm. Students sit on the stage alphabetically and counselors call them up to receive their scholarship. Your counselor will use the information from the white sheet to talk about your plans. College/Military representatives are there and will hand you your scholarship certificate. Community Scholarship reps are there and will come up to talk about their scholarship and your accomplishments. This is a very nice evening for students and parents and a perfect ending to your high school career! The evening begins in the gymnasium at 6:30pm for the whole school. Once this portion is done, all grade levels that are receiving awards go to separate areas – seniors go into the auditorium. In years past you were recognized for having a 4.0 – we do not do this for seniors, we acknowledge scholarships and department awards only. You will sit on stage and your counselor will call you up to the podium to receive your scholarship(s). The college representatives will be there to give you their certificates and If you are receiving a community based scholarship, the community member may be there to present that to you as well. As previously stated, if you are joining the military, your recruiter will be there to present their certificate to you also. The entire senior session takes a little over an hour.

9 What do we NOT recognize?
We do not acknowledge certain financial aid from your schools. This includes all grants and loans, including the Obama Scholars Program. Please remember, this is for scholarships and awards only, not need-based financial aid. We also do not recognize CEF Impact Scholarship or CEF Community Scholarships, although they will be listed in the program. Chandler Education Foundation will have their own awards ceremony and invite you to that if you are a recipient.

10 Side note…… A few students will be chosen by specific departments as their “Student of the Year”. If you are a department Student of the Year you will receive an additional invitation from Mr. Bell’s office. These department awards will be given in the senior session as well. One last thing, if you receive an additional invitation from Mr. Bell’s office, you will be receiving an additional non-monetary award, either in the general session or in the senior session. His invitations are for awards such as; Student of the Year, Athlete of the Year, National Merit, AP Excellence, and others. Please see me if you are unsure which session you should be attending or if you should be attending both.
