August/September Start a file box Register for the ACT or SAT exam

October Class rank/GPA forms due Ask for 3 letters of recommendation

October, cont’d 12th graders are allowed 2 college visit days
Begin the college admissions application; use NAVIANCE for the ApplyTexas or Common Applications See the scholarship bulletin on NAVIANCE If you’re student athlete and want to play sports in college, start the NCAA eligibility process

November Have social security # or green card # readily available
Review grades and other information required for the college application Follow up on the recommendation letters Complete the application

November, cont’d Find out which, if any, essay will be required
Set aside a day to complete the essay(s)

December Find out which financial aid application will be required: FAFSA, TASFA, and/or CSS Profile Apply for a PIN for the FAFSA Gather all necessary documents for the forms

January Begin completing the required financial aid forms
Males 18 and over must register with the Selective Service Act; required on financial aid forms

February/March Apply for as many scholarships as you can
Compare financial aid offers and acceptance letters

April Make decisions about which college/university you will attend
