Meteorology 415 Fall 2012 Summary

Forecast Sites

Course Objectives - I

Course Objectives - II

Specifics of Fall 2012 There has been some forecasting component to each class since August! You have predicted for more than 50 different sites (Survey) and over 100 sites (Career). You have completed >1 COMET module, 2 Labs, 5 Data Drills, 4-6 Exercises and an Applied Forecast

Changes since August Some struggled with METARS – now everyone is fluent Very few had a set discipline to their forecasting routine – now most do Some had a difficult time discerning surface fronts – now all can find them Many of you were casual viewers of satellite loops and observations - now you study them carefully

Other accomplishments
You are keen to probabilistic forecasting You should have a good handle on how to use ensemble forecasts You have a much better sense on where/when to differ from MOS (near fronts) You have predicted for 4 of the 7 continents (NA/EUR/ASIA/SA) You have done well!

You have had some sweets..
My children, eat honey for it is good, Yes, the honey from the comb is sweet to your taste, Know that wisdom is the same for your soul; If you find it, then there will be a future for you and your hope will be satisfied. King Solomon (Proverbs 24: 13-14)
