Targeted Instructional Bilingual Training
(ML0190) Reading is critical to academic and economic success and lifelong learning. Research is clear about what is necessary for successful and engaged reading. By far, the most important element is a knowledgeable and skilled teacher of reading. Consequently, a goal of the HISD Literacy Plan is to build teachers’ knowledge and skills. This training will help 1st grade teachers boost the reading, spelling, and comprehension skills of bilingual students who demonstrated below grade level performances on Tejas-LEE. First grade teachers will learn how to use the Tejas-LEE data to group students for small group instruction and design instructional lessons to address student needs. The presenter(s) for the training are from Valley Speech Language & Learning Center. This two day training is being offered by The Curriculum, Multilingual and Professional Development Departments. Dates : September 22 and November 3 (participants must attend both dates). The course is for grade 1 bilingual teachers . Teachers will be paid $ each day for attending.
