Mountain A landform that rises over 2,000ft above sea level or the surrounding flatlands **A volcano is a type of mountain

Plateau A large, mostly flat area that rises above the surrounding land. At least one side has a steep slope.

Basin A shallow area or depression filled with water which has been drained from the surrounding area. The Amazon Basin in South America is home to Anacondas who lurk in the shallow waters.

Desert A Dry, often sandy region of little rainfall, extreme temperatures, and sparse vegetation.

Peninsula A piece of land that projects into a body of water and is connected with the mainland by a narrow strip of land

Volcano An opening in the earth’s crust through which molten lava, ash, and gases are ejected. About 80% of the world’s active volcanoes are occur in a ring around the rim of the Pacific Ocean called “The Ring of Fire”

Earthquakes A sudden and violent shaking of the ground, sometimes causing great destruction, as a result of movements within the earth's crust or volcanic action
