Describe general rules related to setting a table. Determine placement of items on a place setting. Identify terminology associated with table setting.

Salt & Pepper Shaker Small containers used for dispensing salt and pepper onto food.

Bread and Butter Bread and butter plate- Plate used to place bread and butter. Butter Knife- Small knife used to spread butter.

Salad Plate Salad Plate Dinner Plate
Plate used to serve the salad or dessert course of a meal, they resemble dinner plates and range in size from 6" to 8.” Salad Plate Dinner Plate

Steak Knife A small serrated knife used for cutting steak and other meat.

Seafood Fork Fork used for eating seafood and assisting with the opening of shellfish (also known as a cocktail fork).

Show Plate Designer plate used to showcase the different courses of a meal, also known as a charger.

Table Cloth A cloth or linen for covering the top of the entire table.

Table Top Overlay A cloth or linen that covers the entire top of the table and hangs down about 5 inches from the top.

Table Top Runner A narrow cloth or linen that lies across the table to add a decorative touch.

Napkin A cloth small cloth or linen used while dining to usually square, for use in wiping the lips and fingers.

Table Setting General Rules 1
Wash your hands: we will be working with items, guests will eat with. Clean slate: Always begin with a clean and ironed slate. Even Steven: Table cloth should be hanging evenly off of table

Wearing gloves: Always wear gloves when polishing silverware or when working with napkins. Perfect pattern: When possible make sure that your silverware is a perfect set. Spot free: Always polish silverware and glassware before placing on tables. 9/11/2018 Property of CTE Joint Venture
