1 Results of an Airborne LiDAR survey between Teignmouth and Sidmouth
Ian Davies

2 Advantages of Bathymetric LiDAR
Rapid Coverage Aircraft surveys at 100 – 150knots Swath width between 100 – 300m Seamless land and sea dataset. Economy of effort in shallow water due to fixed swath width. Flexibility Easy Access to Remote Areas Simultaneous Topographic and Bathymetric Data Collection Data resolutions from 1-7.5m achievable (Hydro) Cost Can be cheaper, and faster, than traditional methods due to potential coverage achieved 8-35km2 per hour

3 Principles of Bathymetric LiDAR
Aircraft Carries a system consisting of: Two laser sources Green (hydro) and IR (topo) A Scanner Unit A Position and Motion Sensor IR laser reflects from Sea Surface, Green from Seabed Difference between two is the depth

4 Hawkeye II Scanner moves in an side to side scan pattern
With a spot spacing of between 2-5m achieving depths of up to 50m in good conditions

5 Hawkeye Data Products Topographic DEM Bathymetric DEM Reflectance Data
Seamless Datasets
