10 Social Studies Understanding the Past “History”- Students will use sources such as timelines and photographs to learn information about the past. They will identify the contributions of historical figures. Geography - Students will read maps and identify symbols and features on maps. They will learn how people depend on natural resources. Economics - Students will explain the roles of producers and consumers and the concepts of supply and demand and saving, spending, borrowing and giving. Culture & Traditions - Students will explore other cultures and how they contribute to our community. Environmental Impact - How do people depend on the physical environment for natural resources? • How can we protect our physical environment?

11 Science States of Matter - Students will observe and conduct investigations to build an understanding of changes in the properties of solid, liquid and gas. Weather - Students will conduct investigations to understand the patterns of weather and how weather can be affected. Life Cycles & Genetics - Students will conduct investigations and build an understanding of animal life cycles. They will identify how plants and animals resemble their parents. Sound - Students will conduct investigations to understand how sound is produced. Summarize the relationship between sound and objects of the body that vibrate: eardrum and vocal cords.

12 Homework 20 minutes of reading, track reading on your log. Parent’s signature/ initials required. Reading Response (this counts towards your 20 minutes) Math spiral review sheet or skill practice 20 to 30 minutes of dreambox and i-Ready per week. (Monday – Sunday) OPTIONAL – Word Work Activities

13 Report Cards Standards Based Grading
Odell Primary uses Standards Based Grading, as they have in the past. This video helps you understand the grading process and why kids "on grade level" will still receive "2s" on their report card. The entire standard has not been taught, so they will not receive a "3" until the entire standard is taught and they display mastery of the entire standard. Standards Based Grading {video}
