Sign Location Your booth location may change from week to week. Having a clear and visible sign will ensure your customers can find you at the market. So what works? There are basically three possible locations for your booth sign -

Additional Signage tell your story share your values
extra information (veggie varieties, short season availability, gluten-free, etc.) prices other retail locations go on brag! You will likely need multiple signs at your booth – you’ll certainly need pricing signs. Farmers’ markets are a high energy place. This can take its tole on vendors however. You’ll likely be doing a lot of talking and lots of smiling. One way to get your message across to curious customers is to use signs that tell your story and your values.
14
In creating these signs, think about what motivates you in your business.
Anything positive about your business should be shared with your customers – if you don’t tell them how will they know? Ex. Pie “Hand grown, hand ground, hand baked”. It is this information that sets you and your business apart.

Brag – be proud of what you create and tell your customers!
Signs are a big help with this as well. Have you ever had a local paper write about your business? Blow that up and display it at your market booth!

Table Setup & Product Display
Things to consider: colours (table cloth, vendor costume) build up baskets and other props fill it up!

At the Berwick Farmers’ Market – props, baskets, prices.
Certain products are more difficult to display than others -

You, the vendor be recognizable and memorable (wear your “costume”)
customer service go on brag! Recognizable – ideally you don’t step away from your booth during the market BUT you may have to. So, be recognizable so your customers, market manager and co-vendors can find you or point you out to interested customers. You can go beyond just recognizable and into memorable by wearing a “costume” – don’t get scared, this can simply be a funky hat, a cleaver shirt, or an eye catching (and functional) apron.

Customer Service: Tips, Do’s & Don’ts
Greet customers. Serve only one customer at a time. Know your products – how they are grown/created and how to use them/cook with them. Try to use the same sales staff every week at the market. Wear a name tag. Reward your loyal customers. Make it easy for customers – provide bags, mirrors, etc. Have a product list and clearly display prices Don’ts – Leave your market booth often or unnecessarily. Have earphones in or read a book while on duty.
